Why Competing Now? It’s Not Even Worth It
I layover some blogs that were convincingly said that make money online keyphrase is not worth competing against. They give reasons like It has been saturated by tons of websites and some even said that being on top of Google ranking for this term didn’t help in expanding their money. I am not sure if that’s one of their ‘tactical strategy’ to stop others from competing for make money online keyphrase. To me, any websites that are on top of Google ranking for the term make money online can surely make tons of money, if they are to be optimize in a right way.
Here’s why you still can make money if you are on top of Google ranking for the term make money online. According to Google Keyword tool, the phrase make money online receives approximately 673,000 search volume. That’s a huge volume, imagine you are on the first page of Google SERP for this term, and 40% of those searchers click your website or blog. That’s about 269200 organic traffic, plus direct traffic and referring sites, that is going to be huge. Click on the image for a larger view.
So, the whole point is, you still can make money online if you are competing for this keyphrase. The only provision is to be higher in the ranking so that you can get a lot of traffic. Then, work on your content quality so that those organic traffic will become regular visitors and gradually, your subscribers.
How can I make money then?
Here’s what you can do when your blog has those thousands of organic traffic.
- You can either use Performing ads or search for advertisers manually in forums to rent your 125×125 space.
- Do more than 125×125 ads, optimize your blog at maximum level, just make sure don’t overdo it. Remember to have some space for your readers.
- You can write a paid review.
- Selling links – If you love Google, don’t overdo it
- You can promote your affiliate links in your post.
Well, this make money online thing looks easy, but the truth is, it is not. You must be good in search engine optimization to be on top of make money online key phrase. But there is another option though, you can always use AdWords which is part of SEM to be on top of Google ranking, of course this require you to spend some dollars.

I agree with you about selling link. Never over do that.
applebloggers last blog post..Did you use ImageShack?
I think the reason people suggest other niches is that there are a lot of people competing to be number 1 for “make money online” and relatively few people actually searching for information on how to make money online.
My sites are in the home and garden niche, and while some people want to make money online *everyone* has a home and wants to buy furniture, decorations, appliances, etc. from time to time. Even a luxury item such as a hot tub gets more searches per month (according to the Adwords keyword tool anyway) than “make money online.”
I’ve definitely found it easier to make money in non-entrepreneurial niches.
Just some food for thought. Good luck!

Selling link’s is good If are looking to get banned by google
Nice post. Thanks!

you can sell your link, but if your blog got banned from google, never cry for that. If you can earn big than you earn from google, why not you keep selling your link right?
I’d heard a while back that Google was chopping heads for writing paid reviews (i.e. pay-per-post, etc.), is that still in effect?
gCommerces last blog post..Hellgate: London – alive for now, free-to-play Mythos – still up in the air
yeah.. Google will punished ever blogs that contained paid reviews (in which many of the articles were paid reviews). Maybe the better ratio for paid review and normal articles is around 1:10 or 1:12
It’s all about traffic. As long as you have lots of traffic, which is organic, usually meaning targeted, then the possibilities of making money are pretty much limitless.
It can be Adsense, it can be affiliate programs or whatever. But first you need to get ranked…..That’s the difficult part, lol.

ehm. maybe its all about traffic. We can earn many thing ONLy from traffic. So far, its depend on some people. Some of them love to sell link, some of them love to get more traffic and better in alexa rank, some people love to have high PR, and some people love to have fun with their readers. So, its depends..

I think if you’re not in consulting and have a skill to make top positions for “make money online” than you have much easier and better ways to earn some cash.

Hi Norhafidz, Great post you got here. I think the market has been saturated with the “make money online” key words , but I think that it really doesn’t matter. There’s room for everyone, and it’s all in how you present your blog or how you use the those keywords to get those hits to your blog. I do think however that if you spend a little bit of money that adwords will bring in those extra visits. Great post!!
Nice post. Thanks!
Great post. I have been focusing a lot on selling affiliate products and now want to test some pay per lead programs. I also sell my own products in some niches.
This is a good post, right to the point.
Ranking in the top 10 for any major keyword can definitely make it easier to monetize your blog. I am working on finding ways to get some advertisers.

wow, for me is very difficult for being top 10 rank for keyword make money online.
make money online is a highly searched for, but also highly competitive term. It’s possible to get a solid rank for that, but it’s going to take a lot of time and dedication to make it there!
Great post you got here.
make money online for newbie i don’t think its really worth doing.
I agree with the point on deterring comp. If I am on top of google for any term I would try to keep people away from it. But the way I do it is make it look like it’s not worth the fight. I’ll make it look like I have the term locked down and no one will want to touch it.

Simons last blog post..How To Run An Effective Case Study
@simon: Good move, buddy…..unless you are as popular as Carl Ocab, getting the organic traffic from Google on one of the most competitive keyword is one of the hardest to achieve.
I second Lindsay that there is higher chance of making money online from other specialty niches. We just need to find the right ones that convert the most. The key is keyword research.
In any case, awesome article with good insight.
Yan
Thanks for this post. It’s nice to see someone with a positive spin on the make money online niche. So many people say you should just not try to get a foothold in that niche because it won’t happen. I like the Thesis template you are using on this blog. It has a professional look to it.

I agree that selling dofollow links is not worth it if you value Google traffic. But they don’t mind if you sell nofollow ones – you just won’t get as much for them, probably. Still, it’s a more sustainable strateg: people who’re buying dofollow links are probably doing so on the basis of a site’s PageRank – how long are they going to keep buying once Google slashes your PR?
Rodney@Blogging with WordPresss last blog post..How I increased my Alexa Rank by 2k percent
@appleblogger: Yes indeed, because we love Google
@Lindsay: I like your idea Lindsay, that’s what I’m trying to say, no matter what terms we compete with, we still can make money online if we are an authority in that niche.
@Star: AdWords is worth to try if you have budget to spend.
@sPblogger: Find a new theme!
@Dennis Edell: The penalties are excruciating.
@Salwa: Thanks! I experienced that before and it is definitely not a good feeling.
@tivitune: yes, that is so true
@gCommerce: yes that is true, and they still sense that rule now
@cencurut: I believe we still can have more paid reviews in our blogs, we just have to make sure it looks natural.
@Internet Marketing: Yea, no matter what terms we compete, we still can make money online if we are on top of SE.
@Friendz: No problem buddy.
@Ben: Hello there pal, thanks for visiting!
@dstudiobali: I know you can, you are a good SEO optimizer.
@jj-mom: Thanks jj! I agree on AdWords and saw a couple of Gurus are doing it.
@O Benim: No problem pal. I just share my opinion
@How to make money: Thanks! Great to know that, how’s your product performance?
@Justin Wright: Yea it is, John Chow shared some ways to find advertisers in this video here: http://norhafidz.com/2008/11/16/its-all-about-traffic-and-good-content/, hope that helps.
@Busby SEO Test gladioolers: I got this phrase from David Beckam “impossible is nothing”.
@SEO services: yea, I second that opinion, a lot of hard works and times have to be sacrifice to be on top of that phrase.
@Moneyblog & @Terabai: Thanks! John Chow was a newbie back in 8 years ago, he’s on his way to be an online millionaire right now. The fact that we have to learn and keep learning everyday makes you near perfect.
@portable rock climbing walls: that is what they’ve (some of top make money online bloggers) been telling their visitors to get away from MMO niche. I think it is wrong to say that, the key to MMO is the traffic, and I am sure we’ll get plenty of traffics when we are on top of Google ranks. No matter what terms we are competing for, I believe we can get something out of it.
@David: Thanks! No problem at all.
@Simon: Good move pal, if you think it’s not worth it, then you have to make some decision. Yea, we have to admit that getting on top spot of “make money online” phrase is not easy. But once you get there, chances of making huge money is substantial. Carl Ocab is one great example.
@watch tv episodes online: probably one of their strategies to get people out from the niche and the work will be easier to them. Thanks! I have to agree on that, Thesis is a great theme.
@Semantik: yea, life is always like that I guess.
@Yan: Thanks! I’ve been busy with my final examination, a tough month for me. Glad everything is over now.
@Rodney: Not for long, I am convince Google has eyes everywhere.
I am not sure if that’s one of their tactical strategy to stop others from competing for make money online key phrase.
