Update on Busby Competition

I decided to join the busby seo challenge earlier July for the purpose of testing and experimenting new ideas in search engine optimization. Some of the techniques worked very well and some didn’t. At this moment, the sphere team from France is the leader of this competition. Forming a team in a competition like this is a very nifty idea. I don’t know precisely about the size of the team, but I believe they have enough team members to ensure the team will be on the top spot. In nearly a month after joining the competition, my official busby blog is now on 39th position. Though the competition is not over yet, I decided to share with you guys all the techniques. Here’s a list of what I did in almost a month optimizing my official busby seo challenge blog:

  • Article Submission
  • Social Bookmarking
  • 3-way Link Exchange
  • Press release
  • Get some juice of ‘influential inbound links’

Influential Inbound Links

Through out the competition, I notice how influential links from *.edu sites were. There is a website that have a couple this ‘influential backlinks’ and I notice that the amount of total backlink weres small. But, the ranking of that website on Google is incredibly high. Another influential type of links is from *.gov sites. These two TLDs were given high priority by Google in determining their ranking. If your site have some backlinks from these TLD, then you’ll rank higher on Google. These type of inbound links are quite difficult to get.

Though it’s hard to get, but it’s still possible to point those links to your site. One of the way is contributing to those site by posting a comment. Find *.edu sites that discuss about something and allow commenting at the end of the discussion. Another extreme way is buying links from Digital Point. Great offers are offered from *.edu site owner. Of course, Google doesn’t like link selling, but ask the site’s owner to make it natural as normal link exchange.

My official busby seo challenge has ‘jump’ from no where to 39th position in nearly a month. Here’s the statistic of my blog that I acquired from ranks.fr:

I’m not expecting to win the competition, what I expect is new knowledge in search engine optimization that I can used later on and share it with others. So far, I can say that those ideas has been working very well and the time taken to reach to the top 100 in Google ranking was extremely fast.
