PageRank or Active Participation
I am somehow one of thousands bloggers who use every single energy that we have each day, just hoping that Google would blessed our blog with PageRank 10. Well, at least half of that value, because a big 10 would not happen in real life, so stop dreaming the big 10. But interesting question just popped out yesterday from the very own mind, which one is much more important, the ‘value of your blog to Google’ which is PageRank or the ‘value of your blog to readers’ which I called, active participation?
What is PageRank?
Just a little bit of information about PageRank in simplest sentence, it is a standard I could say, set and created by Google to classify websites according to their . The higher your PageRank, the more important your website is, according to Google. The scale is from 0 to 10 and the PageRank is created by one of Google founders using certain algorithm, which is of course being kept secret.
What is the use of PageRank? Why is it so important? They have been used by most of internet marketers as a stepping stone to set the price for ads on their blogs. Logically, Google dependable advertisers will buy link ads in the form of text, in high PageRank blog in order to Google does not like this, so there were several cases where Google downgraded a couple of ‘famous’ blogs because they sell link ads
How to get high PageRank?
There is no specific-proven technique to increase your PageRank as far as I am concern. As the algorithm is kept changing every moment (according to seo experts on DP forum), the only way suggested by experts is by getting a lot of quality back links as you can. By doing that, the chance of getting higher PageRank is blossoming.
What is active participation?
This is not generally an official term, it just something that I thought might be suitable to represent what I believe contain all of these elements, so let see what is a blog with active participation:
- Have high and consistent comments on every posts.
- A lot of blogs turn to yours (link baiting).
- Consistently update posts.
- Being actively contribute to the blogosphere.
- Always meet the demands of readers. (feed the readers with valuable information)
It depends on situation, or to be precise, your true intention of blogging. Some might choose PageRank and the other might prefer active participation. But if you are into money blogging, both have great potential and contribution in terms of generating money online. But it is not easy to get combination of both factors, believe me, I’ve seen some blog with high PageRank yet all the posts have empty comment.
So which one suit you, PageRank or Active Participation?

Thanks for the nice info. Just asking what is your opinion with doing profile spamming to high PR website? I’m a bit confuising is it legal or not? btw many IM so call ‘otai’ is suggesting me of doing that. How about you?
@mzm: any sort of thing that is called ‘spamming’ is just unethical, try doing something naturally, for example, contribute to discussions in order to get fine back links.
Which one is much more important?
I think active participation is quite important. The more your readers participate, the more unique your content will be and more people will link to your post and eventually, your PR goes up
I think PageRank distribution are for dofollow links only, right? What about nofollow, are they irrelevant?
I stopped putting much thought into PR quite some time ago. To me traffic and conversation is way more of a indicator of my success.
I think active participation is related to updation, like if you doing blog comments keep regularly working with that blogs and page rank related to your quality backlinks..

it is one of the ways for them to earn money by providing financing for the customer. It has no bearing on whether you get a loan or not. Based upon what you are saying you should have no trouble qualifying for a better rate this time
I think targeted traffic is much better than page rank. Becoz

To increase you page rank manually it is very easy. You just spread you link to increase your link popularity. the more you link is linked to other sites, the more you get ranked. try to add your link to high page rank site.
